Its versatile repertoire spans the all time favorites Javanese heritages masterpiece arts, drama and
dance to exciting cutting-edge premieres. Since its inspection in 1961, Ramayana Prambanan
Ballet has toured fully or partially to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and India, Australia, Japan,
European countries and many others. The first performance was showed in 26th July, 1961.
In 25th August, 1961 the performance was attended by the first President of Indonesia, Soekarno
and the other honored guest included Charlie Chaplin. “There would be pilgrimages to Indonesia if
the world knew about this Ramayana Festival. I’ll tell the world there is a cultural wonder in Central
Java. I’m deeply impressed and terrifically moved.” (Charlie Chaplin)
